Maria Mitchell

Maria completed her training as a Registered General Nurse in 1984 and for most of her career worked in a variety of ward settings both privately and in the NHS. Prior to joining the Sussex Back Pain Clinic she worked as a rehabilitative nurse with adults who had acquired neurological impairment such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury, helping and supporting patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

“My role as an IDD Specialist Care Nurse at the Sussex Back Pain Clinic allows me to use my skills in a clinic setting and to support IDD patients on their journey towards better back health.

I am responsible for monitoring and supporting patients throughout their IDD journey. This entails making notes about their progress, listening to any concerns and giving appropriate advice. I also liaise with the Consultant Osteopath and the Exercise Coach if needed, to ensure that the patient gets the best care and advice possible.

The environment at SBPC is very caring and the practitioners are genuinely committed to helping people to improve their health, so it’s a very positive environment. I love supporting patients on their IDD journey and seeing the difference that improved back health makes to their lives.”
