What is IDD Therapy?

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics Therapy (IDD Therapy) is a complete programme of treatment and rehabilitation, which is changing the way sciatica and other chronic disc-related conditions are treated.

The treatment and rehabilitation takes place over several weeks. This will not only treat your disc problem but also ensure that you recover mobility and spinal strength to enable you to do everything you want to once again, pain-free and without the risk of your problem returning.

Our IDD Therapy programme has an impressive track record for reducing pain in patients with damaged spinal discs who have failed to respond to manual therapy and whose only other option had previously been spinal injection or even surgery.

How does IDD Therapy work?

It uses a mechanical spinal decompression treatment to gain relief from more persistent lower back and neck pain, that usually comes with trapped nerves in the arm or leg, caused by damage to the intervertebral discs. This approach is non-surgical, non-invasive and, typically, does not involve pain medications.

By using computer-controlled technology, it is possible to isolate each bone in your back and distract (draw apart) the vertebrae surrounding an injured disc. The treatment provides static, intermittent, and cycling forces to reduce the strain on specific spinal segments. These might be in either the lower back or neck and discs that are worn, damaged or bulging are most likely to be causing the symptoms.

By decompressing (taking pressure off) a prolapsed or slipped disc, IDD Therapy can alleviate the pain and numbness of any trapped nerves while stretching the soft tissues. Thereby, relieving pain caused by muscle spasm and improving the mobility of the spine to allow the body’s natural healing mechanisms to operate more efficiently, without the need for more invasive procedures like spinal injection or surgery.

What does IDD Therapy treatment involve?

As well as being safe and painless the treatment is comfortable and relaxing. The treatment process involves a gentle ‘pumping’ action that promotes the diffusion of water, oxygen and nutrients into the injured disc area. This is required to allow it to heal as it should.

By gently increasing the distraction over the course of the therapy, we can promote retraction of a herniated nucleus pulposus (the elastic core of the intervertebral disc). This relieves irritation around the surrounding nerves to drastically reduce pain levels without the use of drugs.

What results can IDD Therapy achieve?

This progressive and comprehensive treatment decreases your pain and achieves long-term healing by:

  • Releasing pressure on discs and trapped nerves
  • Relaxing muscle spasm – the cause of most lower back pain
  • Rehydrating and improving the healing of your discs
  • Taking the strain off spinal structures
  • Improving spinal mobility

What comes after IDD Therapy?

Once free from pain, we can work on rehabilitating your spinal movement by using exercises to restore: proper coordination, balance and strength. The best possible chance of a long-term recovery is achieved with one-to-one rehab sessions as well as you doing simple tasks at home in between treatments.

Safe, gentle and non-invasive, IDD Therapy addresses the failings of traditional traction and the natural limitations of what clinicians can do with the hands alone. Achieving high success rates – with thousands of patients having experienced dramatic pain relief and healing – IDD Therapy helps chronic neck and back pain sufferers to regain normal active lives and stay active.
